What we buy

Rack-mount servers from every major platform — Dell PowerEdge, HPE ProLiant, Lenovo ThinkSystem, Cisco UCS, Supermicro and white-box builds — along with blade chassis and their blades, hyperconverged nodes, and GPU compute where the accelerators are still installed. Populate the memory and the CPUs and the number rises sharply; a chassis stripped of DIMMs and processors is a different asset entirely.

Storage is equally in scope: SAN and NAS arrays with their controllers and shelves, JBOD enclosures, tape libraries and drives. Network hardware too — top-of-rack and core switches, routers, firewalls, load balancers, transceivers and the optics that are usually left plugged in and forgotten. Optics alone frequently add up to a meaningful line item.

And the physical layer: server cabinets and open racks, PDUs inside those cabinets, rail kits, KVM and console gear, structured cabling, ladder rack and containment panels. We would rather take the room complete than leave you with the unsellable remainder.

Drive handling and data security

Drives are the reason server sales stall, so we treat them as the first design constraint rather than an afterthought. Every drive is separated at de-rack, recorded by serial number, and tracked under its own chain of custody from the rack to the destruction record.

You choose the method. NIST 800-88 purge-level wiping preserves the drive's resale value and therefore improves your offer. Degaussing renders magnetic media unrecoverable. Physical shredding is the most defensible and can be performed on site, in your building, with your security team watching, if policy requires it. Solid-state media is cryptographically erased or shredded — never simply degaussed, which does nothing to flash.

Every method produces a serialized certificate reconciled against the asset list you gave us, which is the document your auditor actually wants to see.

What drives server value

Generation dominates. A current or one-generation-old platform with populated CPUs, full DIMM banks and caddies present has real resale demand and prices accordingly. Two generations back the curve flattens; three and beyond, most units are worth their components — processors, memory, drives, power supplies and the metal.

Configuration matters as much as model. High core-count CPUs, large DIMM capacities, GPUs, NVMe carriers and populated caddies all raise the number. Missing rails, missing caddies and missing drive trays lower it more than people expect, because those parts have to be sourced before the unit can be resold.

Quantity helps too. A hundred identical nodes are worth more per unit than five mixed ones, because homogeneous lots are what resellers and integrators want to buy.

Frequently asked questions

How old is too old?
Nothing is too old to quote. Platforms three or more generations back are priced on component and material recovery rather than resale, but that still produces a real number and a documented disposition, which beats paying someone to haul them away.
Do we have to remove the drives first?
No, and we would rather you did not. Pulling drives yourself usually breaks the serial-level reconciliation your auditor wants. We separate and track them as part of de-rack, then destroy or wipe them to your chosen standard with serialized documentation.
Will you buy partial racks or single servers?
Yes, though economics improve with volume. Small quantities are best combined with other equipment or added to an existing route through your area.
Can you shred drives on site?
Yes. Mobile shredding at your facility, witnessed by your security team, with serialized certificates issued before the truck leaves. This is standard for regulated environments.
What about software licenses?
Licenses generally do not transfer with hardware, and we do not price them into offers. We do wipe firmware-level configurations and remove management credentials so nothing leaves the building carrying your identity.
